How sad and how true. All change starts inside ourselves. The only way to change the world is to change what we have power over, ourselves. Thank you for sharing this.
It reminded me of a conversation I had with my bestie. She’s very disturbed by the media’s portrayal of women so I told her to join a feminist group, blog about or whatever else she can think of. She responded by telling me that it doesn’t work. That nothing changes. This was a blow considering I do activism and I have seen changes! We can’t have that attitude!!!!
You are right about that attitude.
Yes instant change is impossible. Never happened and when it did never lasted. She needs to look at all the activists that worked diligently over the years, read about their struggles and the difference they made.
I hope she takes your advice and become actively involved. Patriarchy wants silence. Patriarchy wants to control women and keep them under a tight leach. Keep bugging her.
If I can find the picture I’ll post it, I saw it a few days and it said something about how society needs to change but WE are society! We keep talking about society like it’s this untouchable entity but it’s not!
I will keep on her! Inspiration can be very healing!
How true. The world changes because we do.
