Time To Change Campaign

The picture posted in my previous post (Some Conversations…) randomly disappeared, on my end at least, so I went searching for it again online! Turns out it’s apart of a whole campaign!

Time to Change (
http://www.time-to-change.org.uk
) is a UK campaign aimed at getting people talking about mental health challenging mental health stigma!

Coelacanth Diaries was commissioned to draw the very cartoon I posted yesterday and drew more that I would like to post throughout because they’re great!

Might I suggest, "Hello".

There’s no need to treat us like we don’t speak the same language as you or that all we want to talk about is our illness. I’ve heard of similar things happening to individuals who are diagnosed with cancer. Suddenly no one knows how to talk anymore when they only thing that has changed about them is they have a diagnosis of an disease. They are still the same person!

Does a mental health issue affect the way you communicate, interpret situations and behave? Yes, it can but that doesn’t mean that regular conversation should be avoided.

Just, stop the ignorance. It’s very unappealing!

About prideinmadness

I'm 24 years old and live in Toronto, Ontario. I refuse to see myself as "sick" and instead focus on how my experience have led me to where I am. I do work and advocacy within mental health, have severe Mad Pride and know that psychiatry needs to change.

  1. struggling with bipolar

I have felt very uncomfortable with certain people after disclosing that I suffer from bipolar disorder. I still feel that way.

    • I’m sorry to hear that, that’s happened to you. It’s so silly what we’ll let affect our interactions. I know I’ve probably done it at one point to someone (not necessarily because of a mental health issue) and I guess it comes back to education. People want to feel comfortable in knowing how to deal with certain types of people?

  2. Either Australia or New Zealand have developed some really fantastic commercials around mental health. I will see if I can find the link for you. The commercials make me exceedingly sad at how the United States treats people with mental health needs.

  3. I’m off to do a charity walk across Northern Spain soon for the charity Rethink – ll be blogging & raising funds along the way so please feel free to share if you think it’s worthwhile: http://timeforarethink.net all the best, David
