Wreck This Journal: An Introduction

I got a Wreck This Journal for Christmas! Wreck This Journal (red) Expanded Ed.

There are a few versions of this journal but that red one is the one I got. I first came across them in Chapters (Canada’s largest chain bookstore) and then my cousin and Aunt bought one each for themselves. My cousin, who experiences severe anxiety, has found great relief and fun from destroying this journal.

So what is Wreck This Journal you may be asking? It’s very simple. You wreck it. Each page tells you to do something different which will result in something happening to the page, pages or the entire book.

Here are some examples of what people have done to their Journals:

I haven’t done much of mine because although you’re supposed to wreck the Journal I really don’t want too! Some of the pages I want to save for when I’m angry but the others I need to just sit down and do them. This Journal becomes more interesting the more I destroy it!

Here’s pictures of what I have done so far.

Just trust I did all of them :p

Tie a string to the journal. Go for a walk, drag it.

I tied together a bunch of elastics my little cousin found and dragged it around the cottage. I couldn’t image actually dragging it outside when I got back to Toronto! It was very amusing! I also did the Crack The Spine page but I can’t show you a picture of that.

Every so often I’ll update about the pages I’ve done! This is going to be fun!

It was amazing at my Aunt and Uncle’s cottage in Kingston. We got hit with quite a bit of snow and today, when I was leaving to go back to Toronto, the sun was shining, no wind and I’m in a forest!

And now….

Franz Kafka said, “we ought to read only books that bite and sting us.” What’s the last thing you read that bit and stung you?

Probably The Kid by Sapphire. According to my idea of “bite” and “sting” this book I found difficult to read most times but it left a lasting impression of me as did the book before it, Push. I sort of don’t even want to discuss the “bite” and “sting” of this book. Google it or something.

Christmas Eve

How many other people will use this title today? I’m willing to bet a lot!

I am back with my family for the next few days. Michael is back in Nova Scotia to see his family :)

I wanted to share with you a tradition that my family has done for as long as I can remember. CHRISTMAS EVE SHOPPING!!!!

This tradition came about because when my sisters and I were younger were would tell each other what we bought the other for Christmas, therefore wrecking the surprise. To keep the surprise alive my parents decided that we would go shopping Christmas Eve.

I am the oldest of 4 girls and there are 3 adults (Mom, Dad and Nanny) and instead of buying for everyone we would draw names. Some would get 2 names (a sibling and an adult) and one person would just have a sibling. We were then given a budget of $20 CND (now $30), the Christmas list of our person(s) and go to the mall. We would then end the day with going out for a family dinner which has now moved to lunch because restaurants are closed early now.

It’s a lot of fun and it’s nice to spend all that time with my family :)

New Self Care

My bestie bought me a knitting loom and yarn for Christmas!!!! She has been using the loom to make scarfs and is currently working on a blanket (she made me a scarf too). I was watching her do this one day and mentioned that I would love to do try and now BAM I got one!

Her Mom bought her, her first loom when she was experiencing a lot anxiety. She said that it calms her down and I’m finding it does the same for me. It requires a lot of focus but is not too difficult which helps make it perfect as a form of self care!

As an obvious bonus you get something at the end! You made something!

War On Christmas

I do not believe in the War on Christmas but what I’m about to tell you is a REAL War on Christmas!

Let me explain where I live. I live in what is technically a condo but it is in a townhouse. Each floor of the townhouse (3) are a single unit which is either rented or bought. Michael owns our unit. This means that Michael is responsible for everything inside and the condo corporation is responsible for everything outside. Example: We needed a new fridge and that is our responsibility. There was mold in our attic (and all the other attics) that was their responsibility. As a homeowner Michael walks this strange line between owning and sort of not because of living in the building.

Today, at 5am, Michael received an email from the condo corporation saying that we had to remove the Christmas lights from around our windows because it makes the units not look uniform which brings down property value! Our lights, that are up for a holiday, that are only on at night and will come down in a month!

Michael was aware that we all had to have white blinds and could have no signs or other things on the windows but for the past 10 years he has been putting Christmas lights around the window and only now, because some losers complain are we being told they need to come down because they break the rules! Michael is not able to find any documentation that says no to the Christmas lights or anything about windows so that is something we’re going to demand from them.

I can’t believe that property value is a factor! You’re telling me that someone would come buy, right now, and be like, “EWWWWW they have have Christmas lights! I’m not paying full price for this!” Like WTF?! This is so STUPID! Who in these units is so lame to tell on us?!

What we’re probably going to do is move the lights to the inside of the window frame. They can’t complain then! This is such motivation to move sooner rather than later!

Property value before the Christmas spirit! Grinch much?!

Almost Nothing Better Than a Pink Pony

Went to Home Depot on Saturday with my Aunt and Mom. While we were picking out Christmas decorations I stumbled across a bunch of animated rocking horses and one of them was PINK! I was so happy!!!

Oh and the colour scheme for the tree this year is purple, silver and light blue!

Daily Prompt: Lonely

WordPress has The Daily Prompt which is a good way to distract yourself and get over writer’s block!

This prompt is a good first one for me to start with!

When was the last time you felt really, truly lonely?

Two Christmases ago I was at home by myself for almost a week. My partner was in Nova Scotia visiting his family for the holiday and I couldn’t visit mine until Christmas Eve because of the cats. I had no one to talk to. All my friends were back at home, in another city or town and I just had my cats.

I remember when I was severely depressed that I felt lonely but I had never actually been alone. This felt worse. At the end of my time alone one of my sisters came and stayed the night so I wouldn’t feel so bad :P

This year I will only be alone for a 2 days before I go visit my family.
