Last night was the Young Ones first Breaking Barriers Gala!
Young Ones is a consumer survivor organization that works with youth who have mental health and/or addictions issues in Toronto. We began over 2 and a half years ago and I have been with the organization from the beginning sitting on their Board of Directors, a co-facilitator in their peer support group and as an educator.
To see our organization go from a something small to a force that can fill a room of guests who share our desire to help youth in need to amazing and beautifully overwhelming! The music (Big Rude Jake and The Jump City Crusaders) , food, venue (The Palais Royale), silent auction (Silent Auction Company) and raffle were amazing!
My family came and filled a table plus my 3 sisters volunteered! I made a speech which focused on Young Ones’ commitment to consumer/survivors and watched with great pride as my fellow Young Ones members and youth shared their own stories!
I could not have asked for a better night!
